Dez Dare (aka Darren Smallman of BATTLE WORLDWIDE, Low Transit Industries, Thee Vinyl Creatures, The Sound Platform, Warped) grew up in Geelong, a port city located on Corio Bay and the Barwon River, in the state of Victoria, Australia where he became involved in the local punk and rock scene in 1990, playing in a band called Warped, sharing stages with the likes of Bored!, The 5678s, Fugazi, The Dirty Three and the Hard-ons, going on to play in multiple bands spewing out sludgy punk rock, drone riffage and noisy pop abundance. Darren was embedded in the scene, playing music, running labels (founding record label and touring company Low Transit Industries in 1999 working with bands such as The Essex Green, Lilys, Elf Power, Okkervil River, Of Montreal, Black Mountain, Trans Am) before moving to the UK in 2010 where he has operated ever since.
------------
‘Critical Mind Dump EP’ is the follow up release to the current album ‘Perseus War’. Veering further into the existential than the album's anti-authoritarian bellowing, it lingers in the electric realms of the mind's purgatory. Like a dream, good, bad or forgotten, it is critical to relieve yourself of whatever shackles tie you to convention. A life dump. This release is the unburdening of thought before the next release.
------------
"This balance - between big and small, between composure and fury - is what makes the record so engaging, Smallman's gaze of disdain flitting from universal issue to idiosyncratic bugbear without pause. On "Tyrannosaurus Shake" he spits lines about obnoxiously tight handshakes, moving immediately to "Bloody Sea, Holy Fuck” which seethes over ocean pollution. Where the emotive weight could easily be lost within the tumult of post Geelong guitars, here it is high and bold, registering with intimacy and wit." The Wire
"Pulsating with a Stooges and Mudhoney blessed garage grit" The Punk Site
"I would say if Hawkwind wrote two-three minute punk songs, they would sound just like this and that’s a hell of a compliment!" Über Rock
"The lone fighter is something like the punky-grungey and above all a few years younger version of Bevis Frond, offering fuzzy psychedelic noise rock on 'Ulysses Trash'." OX FANZINE [8/10]
"It's a wild mix of classic garage rock, psychedelic elements (Hawkwind says hello), typical punk riffs of the late 1970s, noise rock à la Sonic Youth or Fugazi, repetitive, shamanic recitations. 34 captivating minutes over thirteen songs from one cast." Amplified [8/10]

Opener absolutely rips. Falls into the ranks of tracks like “Dance” by ESG, “Eisbaer” by Grauzone, “Damaged Goods” by Gang of Four or like the album description says Kleenex. This is some really good stuff. Favorite song is the opener but dedicate “Blue” to my friend Blue who lost her life at 22, she would have loved this album. TheBloodofChrist

Oh how I long for this album in vinyl format! Such smoothness. Such warmth. Such execution. This music begs to be taken along and woven into memories. Everyone I’ve shared this album with has loved it. The music speaks far and wide. Shouting out to a fellow follower, Brian Lehmann, for his excellent taste in music. If not for him, I likely would have never stumbled upon this absolute gem! Plinchmo Larduktin
Great, wild post-punk from this Chicago duo who wrap bent-wire guitars around lockstep rhythms and wry, sarcastic vocals. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 24, 2021
